Before we start, these are Tier points, the ones you gain in the aim of climbing through the status tiers with British Airways. They are not Avios points, the currency British Airways use to be able to book flights etc.
Whilst almost all airlines calculate your status by either how much you spend, how far you have flown or both, British Airways offers a flat rate of Tier Points for flights. You can work out how many Tier Points you’ll earn on the British Airways website. The rate changes depending on how far you fly and which class you book. It is also worth mentioning you get Tier Points for flying on OneWorld partner airlines too. Let’s take a look at some examples of how BA distribute Tier Points.
Euro Traveller
What BA call there economy tickets for flights within Europe. Booking “Economy Basic” which is hand luggage only (Booking class Q, O, G) fares will typically yield you 5 Tier Points for each leg of the journey you book. Then there’s your standard Economy (Booking Class K, L, M, N, S, V), These will all earn you 10 Tier Points for each flight flown. Lastly, there is Flexible Economy (Booking Class Y, B, H) where you would earn 20 Tier Points per flight.
World Traveller
What BA call there economy tickets for long haul flights. Booking “Economy Basic” which is hand luggage only (Booking class Q, O, G) fares will typically yield you 20 Tier Points for each leg of the journey you book. Then there’s your standard Economy (Booking Class K, L, M, N, S, V), These will all earn you 35 Tier Points for each flight flown. World Traveller Plus
BA’s answer to Premium Economy. They don’t offer this on short-haul routes, just long haul (2000+ Miles). There’s your standard Premium Economy Ticket (Booking Class E, T) which offers 90 Tier Points. Then you have their Flexible Premium Economy Ticket (Booking Class W) which also offers 90 Tier Points.
Club Europe
Business Class flights within Europe. Booking a Business Class (Booking class R, I) fare will yield you 40 Tier Points for each flight you take. Then they also offer Flexible Business Class (Booking Class J, C, D) which also earn 40 Tier Points for each flight flown.
Club World
Long haul Business Class flights. Booking a Business Class (Booking class R, I) fare will yield you 140 Tier Points for each flight you take. Once again you earn the same 140 Tier Points booking the flexible Business Class (Booking Class J, C, D) .
First Class
Just like with World Traveller Plus, First Class is only available on long haul (2000+ mile) routes. Normal First Class (Booking Class A) and Flexible First Class (Booking Class F) both earn 210 Tier Points per flight flown.
Of course, there are exceptions. For example London Heathrow to Singapore, Its over 6500 miles so in Premium Economy you’d earn 100 Tier Points instead of 90, 160 TP’s for Business instead of 140 TP’s and 240 TP’s for First instead of 210.
